THERICS ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF NEW BONE VOID FILLER
COMPANY RECEIVES FDA CLEARANCE TO MARKET ITS SECOND PRODUCT
PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 21, 2003 – Therics, Inc., a subsidiary of Tredegar Corporation (NYSE:TG), announced that it will introduce TheriFil™, a resorbable calcium salt bone void filler device used to treat trauma-related osseous defects of the skeletal system. TheriFil, which received FDA clearance in July, is the second product manufactured by Therics using its TheriForm microfabrication process. In March, the company received FDA clearance for its first product, a bone graft substitute called TheriRidge™ Block.
The launch of TheriFil is another important milestone for our company, and a critical step in our plan to commercialize several new products in the first half of 2004, said Thomas S. Stribling, president and chief executive officer of Therics.
TheriFil features a uniquely microfabricated design of highly biocompatible, b-tricalcium phosphate that creates a resorbable interlocking network within the defect site to promote healing.
Therics TheriForm technology, originated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is distinguished by its ability to spatially control, with extreme precision, the placement of multiple materials into complex three-dimensional constructs. The process provides a high degree of flexibility in the design of product characteristics such as macro and microarchitecture, material composition, and internal and external surface textures. Therics has an exclusive license from MIT to develop this technology for FDA-regulated biostructures and implantable metal parts.
Based in Princeton, N.J., Therics is a developer of digital microfabrication process technology for medical devices and other medical applications.
